Introduction

This Java applet was created at Blair Computing Systems, Inc. in Newark, Delaware. The applet duplicates much of the display functionality of the Texas Weather Instruments "Weather Report" device. Experimenting with this online version can give you a good idea of the look and feel of the actual product. Wherever possible, the functionality associated with each button has been maintained true to the device.

An overview of each component of the display and a table of button functionality is provided below.

Windchill Displays the calculated Windchill factor based on the current outdoor temperature and windspeed
Hold (Temperature) Toggles on or off a freeze on the currently displayed temperature
Comfort Displays the calculated Heat Index based on the current outdoor temperature and relative humidity
Windchill & Comfort Pressing the Windchill and Comfort buttons in rapid succession (no more than about 3 seconds apart, on average) displays the calculated dew point based on the current outdoor temperature and relative humidity. On the actual product, these buttons must be pressed simultaneously.
Hold (Barometer/Humidity) Toggles on or off a freeze on the currently displayed barometric pressure or relative humidity
Last Displays the maximum rainfall for the term
Hold (Rainfall) Toggles on or off a freeze on the currently displayed daily, monthly or term rainfall measurement
Select Currently non-functional. On the actual product it is used in conjunction with other buttons for calibration of device parameters.
Clear Clears or releases all active Holds. On the actual product this is used to clear various device memories.
Minimum Steps through the minimum recorded measurements for indoor and outdoor temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity, term rainfall, and windspeed and direction.
Maximum Steps through the maximum recorded measurements for indoor and outdoor temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity, term rainfall, and windspeed and direction.
Scale Toggles between display in English and Metric system units for temperature, windchill, heat index, barometric pressure, rainfall and windspeed.
Average Turns the windspeed and direction averaging indicator light on and off. When averaging is off, a pseudo-random distribution of wind speed and direction is displayed. When on, an average wind speed for the past minute is displayed. On the actual product, this toggles the display between showing averaged and instantaneous windspeed and direction.
